GIO PONTI (1891-1979)

BIOGRAPHY

"The funzioni del Mobile sono tanto esse letra quella di piacere. " ("The functions of furniture are innumerable and among them, appealling.") Born in Milan in 1891, Gio Ponti attended the Polytechnic School where he graduated in 1921. He launched the magazine Domus in 1928 devoted to architecture and published today. He quickly became the director of the Biennale of Milan. He offered numerous architectural projects throughout Italy. In parallel, he created many design pieces, alone or in collaboration, one of the richest being the one with Fornasetti. Died in 1979, Gio Ponti is considered as the icon of the Italian architecture and design of the twentieth century.
